Most businesses operate on processes that evolved organically — a spreadsheet here, a manual handoff there, an approval chain that nobody questions. Over time, these ad-hoc workflows become embedded in the organisation, creating inefficiencies that are invisible to the people working within them.
A process audit makes these inefficiencies visible. By systematically evaluating how work flows through your organisation, you can identify bottlenecks, compliance gaps, undocumented procedures, and manual steps that should be automated. The result is a clear picture of operational maturity and a prioritised list of improvements.
This scorecard evaluates your operations across five dimensions of process maturity: documentation, automation, visibility, compliance, and scalability. Each dimension contains four questions, scored from 0 (no capability) to 3 (fully mature). Your total score is converted to a percentage and graded on an A–F scale.
An “A” grade (85%+) indicates mature, well-documented, and automated processes. A “C” grade (50–69%) suggests processes exist but rely heavily on manual effort and tribal knowledge. Anything below 50% highlights significant operational risk that should be addressed.
Your scorecard report includes specific recommendations for each category. Start with the lowest-scoring dimension — that is where the greatest improvement opportunity lies. Focus on quick wins first: documenting undocumented processes, adding basic automation to repetitive tasks, and creating dashboards for processes that currently have no visibility.
Share the report with your leadership team to build the case for process improvement investment. Organisations that score below 50% typically recover 10–20 hours per week per team by addressing the gaps identified in their audit.
This tool is designed for operations leaders, process improvement managers, and business owners who want an honest assessment of how their organisation works — without hiring a consultant.
